The Marni H&M collection for spring 2012 displays upcoming trends for the spring and it speaks for itself. I hope I will be able to get my hands on one of the amazing pieces from the collection because I am almost certain that it will be scarce. I have always been a big fan of Apple products and I would like to get an iPhone 4s or an iPad 2 sooner than later. Would be nice if I could get both, a girl can dream right? This is a wishlist afterall.
It would be nice if I could get my hands on this Canon EF 135mm Canon lens. Apart from taking pictures for my blog, I love photography in general. It is one of my favorite hobbies. Last but not least, I want the 100 years of fashion illustration book. I loved illustrating fashion when I was younger. I had a portfolio of all my drawings that eventually got lost somehow over the years. Anyway, these are just a few things that I would like in my possession.

Although it was cloudy today, the weather was unseasonably warm. Nothing outrageous but it definitely feels cool outside instead of cold, especially in December (not like I'm complaining or anything) I got this bag in a flea market from a woman who was selling vintage items for around 5 dollars. Flea Markets and consignment shops are the "go-to" places to find rare and inexpensive items. If you've never been to one, you should definitely consider making a trip.

I remember entering this year with alot of ambition and charisma. It's december already and I can't believe we're about to enter the year 2012. As excited as I am, I wish time could slow down a little bit. I wish happy moments could be stretched out, just so we could enjoy them some more. I am joyful to be ending my year with thesame kind of mindset as I did entering it. Anyway, this blouse was one of those "deals" I was talking about in my black friday post. It retailed for about $50 and It ended up costing me about $18 after all the percentages off. Not bad, huh?

Last night, I went to Mai Thai in DC for a special someone's birthday. We got there right when they were closing but luckily I was able to convince the manager to let us in since we were there to celebrate a birthday. In other words we had the restaurant all to ourselves. I love ethnic food and Thai is definitely one of my favorites. I've been to Mai Thai a few times and I always get drunken noodles. No, It doesn't get me inebriated (atleast not in the way one would think) but it is delicious and very filling. I would recommend Mai Thai for young professionals and others alike. You can go there on dates, have birthday dinners, celebrate an accomplishment, or even for happy hour. You get more for your buck and the interior is appealing.

A Black Friday

No, I didn't win a fancy new car. Would be nice though considering that it's the holiday season. Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I spent mine with family in Baltimore. In the U.S. there is a tradition called "Black Friday", which is always the day after Thanksgiving (Since Thanksgiving is always on the last thursday of November). It is a day for consumers to spend some holiday cash because of all the supposed bargains that retailers promise. People are fed false hopes that they're getting insane deals, when in actuality most of these "bargains" are just gimmicks. I've never particularly been a Black Friday advocate but I always get curious to see if I can actually find something worth the hype. Don't get me wrong, there are some bargains out there that are actually worth writing about but you'd have to be a wise shopper.

I went to Express, Nordstroms, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, H&M, and a few other stores. Luckily I was one of the early birds that got to the mall before noon so I was able to snag up a few deals. I decided to end my "shopping spree" with a trip to Chipotle then headed back home. Happy holidays, hope you are all enjoying it so far.

Last night was Iyabo Cuisine's launch party. Things were a bit chaotic at first but everything turned out well at the end. I want to thank everyone that came out to support my sister's new business. Remember that DIY chiffon maxi skirt that I wore a few posts ago? well this is it again in the form it was meant to be worn. These lovely earrings were sent to me by Chic Vintage Boutique. They sell vintage clothing, shoes, and accessories. All of their items are shipped for free, so I think you all should check them out. Since I was a server at the launch party and I also had to do a lot of running around, I had to wear flats. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

It is a little hard to believe that it was about 70 degrees earlier this week. It started raining on and off since Wednesday and it has gotten drastically colder. It's starting to feel more like winter now. I finally changed my hairstyle after putting it off for so long. I decided to put some long extensions to create this middle part style. I got it kinda wet but nothing a hairdryer and a flatiron can't fix. Hope the weather isn't like this over the weekend.

Nowadays I don't even bother going shopping for "vintage" clothing because I have a habit of keeping clothes for years. I have owned some of my clothes for so long that they might as well be considered as vintage. I wonder how old an article of clothing would have to be in order to be considered vintage. I love my old things though because they're associated with alot of happy memories. The kind of memories that I associate with this time of the year. The colorful autumn leaves, as moderate as the wind is.. it still manages to take my breath away, the slight chill gives me goosebumps. The vividness... *sigh*

The envelope clutch was formerly a business case/portfolio holder. I just cut the straps off and re-adjusted the clip that closes it. I got those Steve Madden loafers I blogged about a few posts ago.They're cute but I wish they were a little bit more comfortable. Maybe I'll need to break into them but apart from that, I really like them. If you're thinking about getting them, I would suggest that you get a half-size bigger because they're made pretty narrow. Anyway, I'm still rocking this up-do bun until I figure what to do to my hair next.

The holiday season has begun and that means I get to spend more time with my loved ones. I was in Greenbelt, DC, and Baltimore over the weekend. Yesterday was Eid, a festive holiday that Muslims get together to celebrate twice a year, and of course I was with my family. There was a lot of food, laughter, and music that I grew up listening to. I wore this caftan-style maxi that I found in my mom's closet with these old Steve Madden heels I left in my old closet. Fortunately the weather was pleasant enough for my attire. Everything I'm wearing is cozy, including my boots. Yes, I know they look super uncomfortable but they're as light as air on my feet. The shoe's design is perfection and I love the wooden block heel. An older lady stopped me and said "Those are some shoes you got there, I remember I used to have something similar back in the 70s..." It makes sense because the 70s was the era of platforms, both men and women were wearing them. A lot of today's trends are inspired by back then, including my hairstyle. The 1950s to the 1990s were really the golden ages in the fashion world. I believe these were the most influential decades in modern US fashion.

Drastic weather change!! I actually like this weather but it was way too windy today. I wore this maxi skirt (It's actually a long dress that I tucked the upper half inside) I couldn't resist wearing it as a skirt because of its length and material. It's so hard finding a maxi skirt with the perfect length, so why not make your own? I'll definitely still wear it as a dress though. I got the turtleneck from target a few years back, I guess some items just stand the test of time.

A lot of you don't know this, but I have been doing hair since I was about 17 years old. Can you believe I learned how to do hair on myself? I started doing my own hair because I couldn't afford salon prices. There were trials and errors along the way but I eventually got the hang of it. Now I don't even feel comfortable with someone else doing my hair. I eventually started doing other people's hair and turned my little talent into a source of revenue. This is just some of my work over the past few years.I even have a few weddings under my belt and I've developed a clientele. That's me styling my sister Kaddy's hair on her big day in the last picture.

I want you guys to check out Misikko for professional-grade hair products. They also have the best hair dryers and the best curling irons. I've personally tried some of their products so I can vouch for them.
P.S hope you're all careful in this weather, it is getting brutal in the east coast. Looks like we're having an early winter!!

TGIF! I've been stalking this rose-gold MK "Bradshaw" watch for a short while and finally decided to get it. What stood out to me the most about it was that it had roman numerals(instead of numbers). I am definitely loving it so far. I wore it with this 70s inspired attire. A vintage blouse and a pair of animal print AW pants. Today is not just the 1st day of October but it is also Nigeria's Independence day. It would be unpatriotic of me not to mention that even though I am far from home. I went out earlier today to check out a Café not too far away from my apartment. I had passed a few times but finally decided to check it today and it wasn't half way bad. I'm not really a coffee drinker but I just love the atmosphere of a good Café.

These shorts were once skinny jeans but I had another pair just like it in my closet. Anyway, I decided to rid of the legs and they came out pretty decent (thanks to my roomie Mariam). What do you think...?

I can’t believe it’s been 6 months since I’ve started this blog. In my hand is the first issue of Pop-Africana magazine, an African fashion magazine that's caught my attention and interest in the past year or so. It is already the first day of September and the weather in the east coast is amazing. Today I wore this 70s inspired print tunic with bronze Marc Jacobs sandals. I changed my hair color and got long extensions. About a week ago I was contacted by Misikko (a company that specializes in Salon Grade flat irons and hairdryers). They sent me the "Hana"(one of their top flat irons) for me to review on my blog.

I work with flat irons often on myself and my clients. My natural hair is unrelaxed and I depend on flat irons to keep it straight. I have used different brands of flat irons in the past and the "Hana" is the best hair straightener that I have used in a very long time. This week flew by really fast, I can't believe it's Thursday already. My stay down at the shore has been pleasant thanks to my incredible roomies. There's rarely a dull moment with them. I went to the Twice is Nice consignment shop today and got a fuchsia colored satin clutch for two dollars and a day bag for three dollars (negotiated prices). The clutch has such a flamboyancy to it that I absolutely love. Elizabeth Arden is known for fragrances and make-up, so I am going to assume that the day bag is a gift that came with a perfume set of some sort.The exterior of the bag is faux croc and the interior is red leopard print. It will certainly make a great day bag for me while I'm down here though. My weekend has already started, so cheers for now!

48 Hours Later

I was in Prince Georges and Montgomery county for the weekend. There were many wedding related events taking place, one of which I was a part of. I had as much fun as I was under pressure. A client of mine asked yours truly to style her bridesmaids' hair for her big day. Her hair was beautifully styled by another stylist ,Wunmi Sokoya, who was a total sweetheart. She even help me out after she was done with the bride because I definitely need it. The bride's make-up was done by her sister,Wunmi Oke-Owo from Glamorous Glo, who also did my sister's make-up wedding. At the end of the day the ladies all came out looking so gorgeous. Congratulations to Layo and Dapo!

Later on that Saturday I was at two other wedding related events. One of them was a Traditional Nigerian engagement party. I was able to capture a few shots and also bumped into my friend Lola Solarin from Wedding Talk. She wore the cutest kitten heels with her modern spin on the traditional Iro and Buba (A Nigerian attire that consists of a loose fitted blouse and a wrap tied around the waist). I stayed in Laurel until Sunday afternoon and eventually went back to the Eastern Shore.

   I'm back from my one week hiatus. I've been super busy these past few days so I haven't really been able to make a post. I was back and forth in Baltimore, D.C, and Prince George's county over the weekend but now I'm at the Eastern Shore and I will be here for the next month (with the exception of some weekends). The weather down here is rather dreadful, It is almost always humid, Yuck! It's especially hard on my hair but it helps putting it in a bun. This is Downtown Baltimore city, where all the magic happens. I went around the city with my sister today. She was interested in the real estate in the area, so I tagged along. The knit dress is label-less..It's one of the items I got it from my last trip to the flea market. The vintage Jennifer Moore bag is also from the flea market but I got it a short while ago. The two items combined cost me less than 5 dollars. I got the leopard print pumps last summer, but they always feel brand new every time I put them on....

Took a trip to North Point flea market (located in Dundalk, MD) with my friend Stephanie from Spitting Glitter. I've been to this flea market numerous times and I always find something new. It reminds me of the markets in Nigeria.I wore a basic tank, a maxi cardigan, some denim shorts and booties. I bought a few things at the market that I'll be wearing in future posts. Stay tuned

I was in my room today skimming through Mango's collection for summer 2011 when I noticed I had a similar pair of pants to what Scarlett Johansson had on the cover page. She looked absolutely gorgeous in the spread by the way. I bought the pants from a consignment shop about a year ago but never got to wear them. They wear high waist-ed and fit like capri pants. I was inspired by Mango's version and had a DIY project on my hands. I cut them into shorts then ironed them for the seam to be more even and flat. I wore the shorts with a vintage blouse and butter colored suede sandals. I completed the look with rings...

Yesterday was very eventful. My brother graduated from high school and I couldn't be any more proud of him... also some friends and I organized a surprise birthday party for one of my best friends Marie.... my little nickname for her is "French Vanilla" because she's french and people call her Nilla.Today is her actual birthday but she's traveling out of town...so we decided to surprise her yesterday. I wish I could have taken more pictures of her but she was busy most of the night catching up with everyone. I wore a blue leopard print dress with black pumps and my passed down snakeskin clutch...Happy Birthday Marie and Congratulations Mohammed....! Love you guys

Before I start my day off, I pretty much have an idea of what it is I want to wear. Not just clothes and shoes but products that I swear by... I am a firm believer in these skin care products! When you take good care of your body it definitely shows..with that being said, here are a few of my favorite things...

Love your body

I use Caress "Evenly Gorgeous" body wash, not only does it smell great but it goes on great...I started using Keri's "original" daily dry skin lotion a few months ago, I tried it out at my sister's house back in december and fell in love with it. If you have fairly dry skin like me, you would know how hard it is to find the perfect lotion. This might be the best I have probably ever tried. I usually mix it with Vaseline Cocoa Butter oil for all day coverage. I have been using Dove products for a few years now.. I have tried their lotions, body washes, and their other skin care products. My favorite product by Dove is their anti-perspirant because it lasts all day/night. The one I use now is their "Ultimate Visibly Smooth" deodorant. I recommend it because it goes on light and ofcourse it's very effective. I use Sally Hansen's "extra strength" polish remover, it's gentle yet strong.You may find most of these products at almost any drugstore or a Walmart.

Face Value

As a teen, I had acne often and I have tried ALOT of over-the-counter products. Even as an adult, I still find myself dealing with breakouts occasionally. I don't break out as often as I used but I am still consistent with my facial cleansing routine and I try my best not to sleep with any kind of make-up on. I strongly believe prevention is better than a cure. I have used Clean & Clear facial scrub for most of the year but I recently picked up Noxema's blemish control. So far I prefer Noxema but I recommend both products for sure. Even after washing my face I still use an astringent to get all the impurities out of my skin; the one I use is ProActiv's revitalizing toner. I occasionally use Mary Kay's Clarifying mask, it leaves my face velvety smooth.

The eyeliner I use is Mac's Technakohl in Graph Black. This is the BEST eyeliner I have ever tried! It goes on smooth, dark, it doesn't smudge, and it lasts all day. I use Maybelline's Greatlash mascara and wouldn't reccomend any other mascara. Great price, great coverage...A Winner in my book! Last but not least is Maybelline's Shine Sensation lip gloss. I have other lip glosses but this is my favorite CLEAR lipgloss. It isn't sticky and It looks so good on.

I wore this maxi dress that my mom got from Saudi Arabia..It is the kind that women are required to wear by law over there but i find it quite intriguing... The month of June is here, the year is officially halfway through, and it feels like summer has really kicked in. I feel inspired by all I see: the fully bloomed trees, the beautiful butterflies, and all the other pretty wild things that have come back to life after winter. The weather was breezy yet warm today... I wore this butterfly patterned blouse, a cobalt colored leather/suede mini, a faux fur bag, and a pair a bronze sandals. Happy Memorial day to everyone, Hope you are enjoying the three day weekend. Yesterday I went to Downtown Baltimore to meet up with fellow blogger Nife from skinnyhipster.com and we had lunch at Edo Sushi. I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and what I love the most about it is how scenic it is. I always get a view of the harbor and it is just beautiful, especially when I go there at night time. I usually get their dragon roll but this time I decided to try their Chicken Teriyaki and a salad. It has a Mediterranean taste to it; different but good. I wore a white quarter sleeved top, a pair of white skinny jeans, a butter colored faux-snakeskin clutch, feathered earrings, and low heeled cobalt sandals.

I was in DC yesterday afternoon for a late lunch at the restaurant OYA. This was the third time I had been at this place and their service and food has never been disappointing. The atmosphere is what really keeps me coming back. I ordered a Cosmopolitan, the Eel Unagi ,and also their crab cakes. I wore a sheer DVF top with a red pencil skirt with a pair of black studded pumps. Even though it was rather humid yesterday I wore a blazer because it made my ensemble "business casual" and also because I knew the aircon would be on blast at OYA...

I went out to Martin's lounge in DC last night. This is my 1st time going there but I loved the decor on the inside. There were a lot of ethnic paintings on the wall and majority of the paintings were of significant historical figures. The place reminded me a little of Tabaq (also in DC) where I had a party for birthday back in March. I wore my hair in a bun because of the style of the dress. The snakeskin clutch was passed down to me by my aunt, talk about standing the test of time... I finally got to wear these blush colored Mercer wedges. I suggest you carry a pair of flats when wearing these 6" heel monsters...apart from that they are awesome...

I am finally back from my unwarranted "blog-cation" The lens to my camera was dropped and had to be replaced. I arrived in Baltimore on Tuesday but I wasn't able to get the new lens til yesterday. Today's shoot was very spontaneous. I wasn't intending on shooting, just happened to be by the railroad tracks. This is a more casual side of me, this blog is called "No Dress Code" after all, versatility should be displayed with a name like that. I got a few decent shots so I thought I should just go ahead and make a post. As predicted, the weather changed yet again. It was just one of those days that had a late fall/early winter feel to it. I wore a t-shirt and some labeless tights that my mom got when she was in Saudi Arabia with these old tennis shoes that I got a few years ago from American Eagle, personally I think they look better look aged than when I first got them. I got the jacket from Saks Fifth Ave earlier this year and a pair of dark shades to hide from the world...

Today's weather was just right, it was sunny enough and breezy enough. The kind of weather that makes one want to do something fun. I finally decided to wear the platform leopard sandals I talked about in one of my posts and paired them with fuchsia colored stockings. It is spring after all so a little color here and there is only called for . I went off to the carnival today in an attempt to reminisce my childhood and I was in a playful mood. The new week just started and It's already Tuesday but I'm certainly not complaining. The weather is starting to warm up again and I even think this is the hottest and most humid it has been all year. I got this vintage bag about two years ago from a flea market but i wear it more as a clutch because the strap is a bit long. Spring weather is rather unpredictable, some may even call it bipolar but I actually like the fact that I can throw on a turtleneck this late in April due to the weather's spontaneity. Yesterday was "Earth day" and it was about 49 degrees out. This black fur hat was just sitting in my closet and was yearning to be worn. I was not intending on wearing it again until fall/winter season but with inclement weather anything is possible. Cheers to the weekend!

Very simple day!Just went out for a salad brunch and enjoyed the beautiful weather. I wore this dress I got from the the Twice as Nice store, it was one of the items from the "Free Box" ...it was a bit ripped when i got it but i was able to sew it up and bring it back to life..I bought these shoes about a week ago, the color is what stood out to me the most and it was pretty affordable, just about $80. If you're looking for an inexpensive find for the spring, I would recommend these.

Today was absolutely awesome, the weather i mean... in that kind of mood I finally decided to do a story on the store I've talked about in my previous posts. The name of the store is Twice is Nice and the name speaks for itself. I have found many pieces there and they always have something new. I was able to talk to the owner and she was pleased that i decided to do a post about her store..she even let me hold her adorable pup..
As you can see the store has movies, books, antiques, furniture, also clothing for both men and women at prices affordable at any budget. She even has a "free box" for items that have been in the store for too long. I got the skirt I'm wearing a few weeks ago from the free box. The hat was also purchased from Twice as Nice for about two dollars...So go to her store and tell her Karima sent you and she'll give you a discount...That's all for today...

Friday was certainly a blur in more ways than one...it rained and poured throughout the whole day...! That didn't mess up my friday night plans though. I ended up going out to a friend's birthday dinner and decided to wear this BikBok dress the bestie gave me. She got it during her last trip to Europe...The dress by itself would have been a bit risque for dinner so i wore this blazer from Urban Outfitters on top of it...In my last post I told you guys about the faux fur bag from Aldo my sister got me last Christmas... this time around i wore it as a clutch with the handles tucked in...I bought these label-less dotted tights during my last trip to New York and slipped on studded platform pumps..
My friend snapped these shots for me but it was his 1st time shooting with a DSLR so i hope that explains the semi-blurry pics..but all in all I hope you enjoy the post...
